Matthew Winkler, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus and co-founder of Bloomberg News, provided an enlightening account of two of the world’s top companies, Amazon and Tesla, in his annual address to students of the Asian College of Journalism.
Winkler highlighted the modest beginnings of the two enterprises and reflected on the similarities between them. Amazon and Tesla are led respectively by Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, who occupy the top two slots in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The seasoned journalist compared the performance, market value and growth trajectory of the two companies with their peers, and explained the factors that have contributed to their success. He spoke about Amazon’s transformation into an everything store and discussed Tesla’s dominance in the electric vehicle industry.
He also touched upon questions of cyber security and alternative energy in his lecture, and explained how demand from consumers and the government play out in the international market and influence global sales of the companies. The interactive session gave students a broader understanding of the operations of Amazon and Tesla.
