Srikanth, who is MoneyControl’s “Editor – Tech, startups and new economy”, started the session by explaining the importance of the IT sector in terms of providing employment to hundreds of thousands of people, and its contribution to India’s GDP.
The seasoned tech journalist, who worked at ET Now until earlier this year, also explained how the IT industry has a multiplier effect on other sectors, especially in terms of job creation.
She then went on to introduce students to the key denizens of the sector and the important metrics — from attrition to deal wins — they needed to know to do a good job of covering it.
Srikanth also used the session to discuss the different types of stories a tech journalist could do including earnings copies, management changes, the impact of visa rule changes, accounting scandals and deal stories.
From bankers to headhunters, she urged students to make sources across the board to be able to break news and do a good job of covering the sector.
