Inauguration of the M. S. Subbulakshmi Auditorium on October 20, 2018

The M.S. Subbulakshmi auditorium on the ACJ campus was inaugurated on October 20, 2018.

The state of the art, 342-seater multimedia auditorium is conceived as a versatile space for music, dance, theatre, video screenings, meetings and seminars.

Its unique feature is the acoustic architecture designed for mic-less performances. It enables a rediscovery of the natural, electronically un-amplified, sound of the speaking, singing, performing human voice; of the entire range of musical instruments, Indian and western.

The auditorium is, at the same time, equipped with a sophisticated sound system with hi-fidelity and non-coloured electronic amplification. It is this combination of technology that makes it one of its kind in India.

The inaugural event was marked by two Carnatic music concerts, both mic-less.

The first was by Smt. Aruna Sairam on October 20. She was accompanied by Shri. R. K. Shriramkumar on the violin, Shri. J. Vaidhyanathan on the mridangam and Shri. S. V. Ramani on the ghatam

The second concert on October 21 was by Shri. Ramakrishnan Murthy. He was accompanied on the violin by Smt. Charumati Raghuraman, on the mridangam by Shri. N.C. Bharadwaj and on the ghatam by Shri. N. Guruprasad
