‘The Status of Women in the US Media’

Cristal Williams Chancellor is director of communications for the Women’s Media Center, responsible for media communications and raising the visibility and profile of the organization. She is a veteran journalist and member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Journalism and Women’s Symposium. On Monday, August 6, 2018, Ms Chancellor spoke on the subject of ‘The Status of Women in the US Media’ to the students of the ACJ.

Ms Chancellor provided statistics to show how the US news media industry is dominated by men. Even when women are employed by the news media, they rarely enter fields like sports, science or financial journalism. What is more, within the category of women journalists, women of color get the worst rap in terms of climbing the professional ladder.
